As the oldest university in the English-speaking world Oxford is a unique and historic institution. There is no clear date of foundation but teaching existed at Oxford in some form in 1096 and developed rapidly from 1167 when Henry II banned English students from attending the University of Paris. The history and influence of the University of Oxford as well as its academic excellence has made it one of the most prestigious universities in the world. The university is made up of 39 constituent colleges and a range of academic departments which are organised into four divisions. Oxford is famed for its architectural beauty everywhere you turn you re met with grand buildings in the distinctive golden stone that defines the city. In 1619 the Brussels Authorities decided to remodel the Manneken- Pis fountain replacing the column pool and statue. They placed an order for a new bronze Manneken-Pis with a renowned sculptor of the era J r me Duquesnoy circa 1570-1650 . The original is kept in the Brussels City Museum. Manneken Pis is the best-known symbol of the people of Brussels. It also embodies their sense of humour called zwanze in the dialect of Brussels and their independence of mind. Manneken Pis is undeniably part and parcel of Brussels cultural heritage and today one of the city s best known symbols along with the Atomium and the Cathedral of Saint-Michel. It has now been established that as early as the 18th century the little statue sported a new costume four times a year. The Museum of the City of Brussels resides in a neo-Gothic style building known as the Maison du Roi in French and Broodhuis in Dutch. The first masterpiece of the museum the building was listed in its entirety in 1936 one of the first in Belgium and has been listed alongside the Grand-Place as a UNESCO world heritage site since 2000. collapsed title History of Manneken-Pis Manneken-Pis was at first a fountain that played an essential role in the former distribution of drinking water since the 15th century.
